Sketch-A-Day HAWAI’I — Black Sand Beach

One of our many stops, while driving around the south side of Hawai’i from Captain Cook to Volcano, was Punaluu Black Sand Beach. This is where we saw heaps of honu, lounging on the windy-windy-windy beach. The sand was black, the sea turtles were gray (when dry on land), and the ledges of basalt were black. I took a few liberties with color doing this sketch.

  2. I LOVE that beach! Always saw huge turtles there. They are amazing creatures, even if they’re green in your world.
