Bullet train to Paris — they are FAST!  Nearly 200 mph fast.  First night in our VRBO apartment looking across the River Seine at a beautifully illuminated Notre Dame.  Great location.

Our German hostess insisted we train to Basel, Switzerland for a day and must, must, MUST walk through the old city area to Gilgen Bakery. “Best Apfelstrudel ever!” We were not disappointed.

Loggia della Signoria, outside Palazzo Vecchio on a corner of the Piazza della Signoria. This is adjacent to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. There are more sculptures here (and people!) than I depicted.

I recently traveled Europe—notably Italy, Germany, and France by way of Switzerland and Iceland (the homeward leg). I did a sketch each day as personal mementos, and will share them until the run is done.

Today I start with the quintessential Il Duomo di Firenze (Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence, Italy) as seen from Giotto’s Tower (Campanile di Giotto).
